The 3D Kinematic Modelling module uses advanced kinematic algorithms to restore complex structures, test alternative scenarios, and reduce uncertainty in structurally complex areas. It enables forward and reverse modelling through time in 3D, while maintaining area and volume balance, supporting realistic model construction across all major tectonic settings.

The 2D Kinematic Modelling module enables you to build, balance, restore and analyse cross-sections at local and regional scales, helping you understand how geological time influences present-day structure. It uses kinematic algorithms to restore deformation while maintaining line-length and area balance, defining a geologically consistent undeformed state and enabling assessment of structural uncertainty and evolutionary feasibility.

Providing a stand-alone environment for building geological models and supporting all specialist modules, including 2D/3D Kinematic, Geomechanical, Fracture, Fault Response, Fault Analysis and Stress Analysis. It integrates geo-referenced 2D and 3D views and over 100 data formats in a single workspace, enabling the construction of geologically consistent cross-sections and 3D models using manual and automated tools.

The environment supports best-practice modelling, with built-in validation and analysis tools such as cross plots, stereonets, rose diagrams and property tables. It is used by geoscientists and engineers to maximise the value of geological data across a wide range of settings.

The Geomechanical Modelling module applies physical laws of motion and elastic properties to model 3D deformation, calculating forces on point masses to reproduce heterogeneous strain behaviour.

It enables users to test multiple scenarios with varying mechanical properties, anisotropy, pinning and fault displacement settings, with each case saved for rapid sensitivity analysis. Strain outputs generated during modelling can be directly used as inputs for Fracture Modelling, supporting an integrated workflow from deformation to fracture prediction.

The Fracture Modelling module uses deformation calculated at incremental time steps as proxies to model fracture development and system properties through time. It combines sequential restoration and forward modelling to link observed fractures with modelled deformation, helping identify the causes of fracturing and build geologically realistic DFN models.

This enables prediction into areas without direct observations using geological proxies, including static and dynamic attributes. The module is a key tool for geoscientists working in fractured rock settings, supporting critical decisions in reservoir simulation, gas storage, fracking, mining and geotechnical engineering.

3D evaluation of present-day and palaeo stress states to assess fault and fracture slip, stability and failure potential.

The Stress Analysis module enables rapid visualisation and assessment of 3D stress conditions and their impact on fault and fracture behaviour. It supports scenario testing across reservoir, mining and engineering applications, helping to define likely failure envelopes for key structural features.

Users can evaluate seal integrity and leakage risk, assess mineralisation potential, and predict geotechnical failure by modelling principal stresses and pressure profiles with depth, including hydrostatic, pore and lithostatic effects.

The Fault Analysis module enables rapid evaluation of throw distribution, across-fault juxtaposition and sealing capacity in 3D, supported by statistical analysis of displacement and scaling relationships to validate geological interpretations.

Integrated with MOVE’s 3D Kinematic Modelling and Stress Analysis workflows, it provides a time-based view of fault evolution, helping identify potential baffles or conduits during hydrocarbon migration and assess fault sealing behaviour in mineral systems. Fault history diagrams support quick temporal analysis of fault development and seal potential.

Boundary element modelling of fault displacement and geomechanical response in surrounding fracture systems.

The Fault Response Modelling module validates structural interpretations by simulating stress perturbations around faults and identifying highly fractured zones. It uses a boundary element method with triangular elastic dislocations to efficiently model complex faulting scenarios and assess deformation.

Resulting stress and strain fields—alongside outputs from MOVE’s Strain Capture tools—are used to predict fracture orientation and evaluate failure potential by resolving shear and normal stress components across faults and fractures.

Digital field mapping apps for smartphones and tablets enable geologists to collect field data and directly build 3D models in MOVE. Petex offers FieldMOVE Clino for smartphones and FieldMOVE for larger touchscreen tablets (iOS and Android), both designed by geologists for geologists with intuitive, familiar interfaces and built-in help and user guides to support quick adoption and ease of use in the field.
