Openserver
OpenServer
OpenServer is the Petex API protocol that allows third-party tools such as Excel and Visual Basic to access IPM functions, turning IPM applications into external calculation engines. It enables automation of data transfer, model inputs, and calculations to streamline repetitive tasks and reduce engineering workload. For larger workflows, RESOLVE Visual Workflows are recommended instead.

It enables automation of data transfer, model inputs, and calculations to streamline repetitive tasks and reduce engineering workload. OpenServer Functionality
OpenServer enables communication with IPM tools through three core commands: DoSet (set inputs or options), DoCmd (execute calculations), and DoGet (retrieve results). This allows external applications such as Excel or VBA to automate model inputs, run calculations, and extract outputs, supporting efficient batch processing and custom reporting.
Example of OpenServer application: Simple Custom Reporting
Batch Runs Example
OpenServer can automate repetitive workflows, such as running MBAL predictions across multiple OOIP values from Excel, executing simulations, and returning results like recovery factors directly into a spreadsheet.
Custom Reporting Example
It also supports tailored reporting by allowing external scripts to query results from IPM tools and format them in user-defined structures, typically within Excel.
Generic OpenServer
A generic wrapper extends OpenServer functionality to third-party software (e.g. Eclipse, HYSYS, TNavigator), enabling RESOLVE to control external applications using standard IPM commands.
Advanced Workflows
Within RESOLVE, OpenServer is enhanced with a visual workflow layer, allowing users to build automated processes without bespoke scripting while retaining full integration capabilities.
