Short Course: Structural Systems Analysis in the Minerals Industry
Monday 14th September, cost £120 per person
 |
Course Instructors: Dr John Grocott and Dr Armelle Kloppenburg, Midland Valley and Dr Brett Davies, Renaissance Geology.
The course demonstrates the value of an integrated “systems” approach and its application from first exploration concept to mine development.
It is designed for senior geoscientists and decision makers across the mining industry. Participants will learn how the application of best practice structural modelling techniques helps to build a better understanding of the geological system through time from regional to drill-hole scale. The benefit of this approach - including the use of multiple scenarios and iteration - throughout the project cycle, minimises riskfrom technical uncertaintyand increases the return on investment.
For more information please see the brochure or register for a place on the course.

North Solway Field Trip
Thursday 17th September, cost £50 per person
 |
Course leader: Dr Alan Gibbs, Midland Valley
The North Solway field trip will visit a classic location where we will examine the relationships between faulting and sedimentation at a major basin bounding fault. We will examine fracture systems in the footwall, evidence of syntectonic sedimentation and fluid flow and mineralisation along with the effects of fault reactivation.
The Solway Basin has a long history of development with Carboniferous and Permian through to present day development and provides numerous analogues for industry interpreters. Delegates will have the opportunity to see some of Scotland’s attractive scenery and hear tales of pirates, poets and pioneers who helped shape the modern world.
