The Move Link for Petrel* provides a means for Petrel users to share data with Midland Valley's structural modelling and analysis software, Move.

Once installed, the Link allows the Petrel user to specify objects within the input tree to send across to Move via the 4DMove component. Once in Move, it is then possible to perform restoration, validation, balancing and editing operations. Objects that have had their geometry changed, or that have had attributes added may then be transferred back to Petrel, and the user may continue working as before. It is also possible to add new objects to the Move document, and transfer them to Petrel.

The Move Link for Petrel provides a new Process in the Petrel Process tree, under the heading "Link to Move", named "Move Link for Petrel". Starting the process reveals a dialog which allows the user to manage the objects to include within a "session". A session between Move and Petrel keeps track of both applications and any changes to the objects shared between both applications.

Using the Move Link for Petrel enables the following, without the need to import or export files:

• The fast transfer of selected objects from Petrel to Move.
• The ability to interactively add and remove objects to and from the Move Petrel Link session.
• The detection of objects that have been changed in Move by Petrel. These changes can then be synchronised, when the user is satisfied with them.
• Adding new objects into Move so that they may be transferred to Petrel.

A second aspect of the Move Link for Petrel is the ability of Move to import RESCUE and ECLIPSE files, which can be generated by Petrel. Conversely Move has the ability to export ECLIPSE.
