Training & Skills Transfer
ImageMidland Valley training services are available with all our software products 2DMove, 3DMove, 4DMove and 4DVista.

Midland Valley offers a variety of training to suit your requirements to provide industry geoscientists and academic geologists with the perfect opportunity to:

  • Try out our suite of modelling software tools 2DMove, 3DMove, 4DMove and 4DVista.
  • Familiarize yourself with features and applications
  • See how these structural models evolve through time
  • Learn how these results can be used to refine structural interpretations
  • Use the software to increase predictive accuracy and reduce risk.

Public Training

Our Public Training courses are normally held at our Glasgow headquarters and follow a fixed course structure on our software over 2 days using Midland Valley data. The course includes a number of presentations, but largely focuses on hands-on exercises. 2008 will see our Public Training courses developing into 2 levels - Basic and Advanced. Dates and information on our Public Training days can be found on our calendar.

Specialist Training & Technical Transfers

Specialised Training and Technical Transfers for individuals and companies is also available on request, tailoring training on our software to meet the requirements specified by the client around their own datasets.

Skills Transfer

Our Skills Transfer activities include training courses, field seminars, project workshops and ongoing health-check visits from our team to work with our clients. We aim to reduce jargon to a minimum and to ensure you understand the necessary essentials to allow you to make the best use of structural geology.

  • Courses are developed to address specific client needs. These include:
  • Software training in 2DMove, 3DMove, 4DMove and 4DVista.
  • Structure and basin analysis courses
  • Field workshops
  • Technology update seminars
  • Ideas workshops to focus on new approaches to emerging problems

Typically, Skills Transfer Courses comprise of New Users: 5 day Training:

  • ½ day introduction
  • 1 ½ days software overview
  • 3 days project dedicated training

The aim of this five days training is to teach the participants how to analyse maps, cross sections and 3D data in order to deduce the history of deformation using Midland Valley’s proprietary structural modelling software. The key concept is time (generations of structures and timing of deformation).

Emphasis will be placed on development of skills that will enable the attendants to check the validity of the structural interpretation and to assess the structural evolution using Midland Valley’s software. This, in combination with applied concepts of structural geology, will allow them to solve structural geology problems.

The training will utilise tutorial exercises, however MVE encourages the attendants to bring their own data to be discussed during the training.
