Geological Provinces

Midland Valley software can be applied to any geological province, whether straightforward or in the most complex of 3D structural environments. In over 15 years as a consulting practice we have applied our skills to projects in most parts of the world. Often the local geology knowledge comes from the client - but we provide the new techniques and generic structural modelling to answer individual client questions.

Our team of consultants, over 20 worldwide, have are specialists in a variety of areas:

Extension    *    Salt Fractures    *    Fold & Thrust Belts *    Inversion    *    Fractures  * Sedimentary Basins    *    Basin Analysis    *   Strike-slip    *    Analogue modelling

These offer clients a range of benefits. In addition to reducing risk and improving the geological model, Midland Valley has a track record of success in oil finding both in new plays and for those elusive sweet spots in proven fields.  For example:

      • We have led clients directly to the identification of fractured highs in exploration drilling with subsequent discovery.
      • We have successfully identified reservoir compartmentalisation and enhanced permeability zones through our modelling which have been subsequently confirmed by drilling.
      • Our 2D software was used in developing the play concept for the Moose Mountain oil discovery in Alberta for a client after other groups had walked away from the lead.
      • We have been able to assist client teams directly in well siting and working with client teams has led to improved targeting of development wells in structurally complex zones.
      • We have derived sediment facies distribution from palaeogeographic maps.
      • Our clients tell us that the key to commercial success in their companies is having the best maps and in understanding how to interpret the inherent uncertainty and opportunities of the geological model represented.
