Midland Valley was founded over 25 years ago by Dr Alan Gibbs as a specialist structural consultancy to provide new and leading-edge techniques for the Oil and Gas industry.
Midland Valley pioneered the application of structural balance to extensional and oblique slip basins, first in the North Sea and then on a world-wide basis. To assist project work, both in house and for our consulting clients, Midland Valley set about developing a suite of software analysis programs in structural geology.
The first 2D structural software package was specifically designed to generalise the thrust belt techniques for use in basins. Later these algorithms were extended to full 3D incorporating the most recent research in algorithm development. The software product range has been rewritten and restructured around a workflow methodology designed to optimize the analysis of complex industry problems using the appropriate 2D and 3D tools.
Midland Valley's commitment to problem solving and an industry and research based approach to software development and use incorporates best practice in the industry. As a specialist team of structural geologists we maintain close links with research groups and the roots of geology as an observational field based science to keep our consulting and software products at the technological leading edge. This strategy allows us to assist in full training and Skills Transfer to our clients and this aspect is exemplified in our innovative approach to user meetings as combined workstation and field based workshops. Experience gained in problem solving for our clients and ourselves feeds directly into our development and to documentation of our workflow methodologies.
