How does it feel to win?It was a big surprise to my lecturer and I! It feels very rewarding to win, it'll be a boost to my cv, and the money will help me afford materials for my Honors year this year!
What did you find the most interesting/challenging part of your project?
The most challenging by far was the stereonet work.. I had not had much experience at it before so getting my head around the interpretation of it was a challenge. And then the most interesting was seeing the actual map come together, and using all the data and the map to interpret the history of the area.
What/who inspired you to choose your subject/topic?
The project was part of my third year geological mapping field trip. Then at the end of it, one of my lecturers, Tom Blenkinsop, encouraged me to enter my work into this competition.
What do you hope to do next in your career?
This year I am going to be working on my Honors Thesis at Wollongong Uni. I'll be doing work on serpentinite associated alteration within the Attunga skarn deposit, of the New England Orogen (near Tamworth in NSW).
What do you love most about structural geology? With the exploration mapping, I like how challenging it can be whilst collecting and interpreting data. But when the pieces start coming together it feels very rewarding!
