Euan Macrae, PhD, University of Glasgow
Euan graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics and now starts his PhD combining statistics and geoscience at the University of Glasgow. The PhD is funded by a NERC CASE award with Midland Valley as the CASE partner. Euan’s research is supervised by Dr Zoe Shipton & Dr Marian Scott (University of Glasgow); Dr Rebecca Lunn (University of Strathclyde); and Dr Clare Bond (MVE). He greatly appreciates such a broad range of supervision! Euan’s PhD will continue the work of the Odin project looking at ‘conceptual uncertainty’ and expert knowledge. The main aim of Euan’s project is to quantify the factors that contribute to conceptual uncertainty, and to determine workflows to minimise it. When Euan is not working he enjoys playing badminton to relax.

Ahmed Saeed, Masters Degree, Royal Holloway University of London (2008/2009)
Ahmed came to Midland Valley on a Work Experience program in 2007 run by the Bridges Programme while his application for asylum in the UK was being processed. He quickly fitted into our team learning new skills to add to his background in geophysics while enjoying the experience of adjusting to living and working in a completely new environment. When his UK residency was confirmed he joined our team on a short term contract as an intern and worked with us on a range of internal projects, supporting the consulting and knowledge teams.
Midland Valley helped support Ahmed on study leave at Royal Holloway University of London while he obtained his Masters in Petroleum Geology, adding to his BSc in Geology and MSc in Exploration Geophysics, both obtained from Mosul University, Iraq. On completion of the course Ahmed rejoined Midland Valley in our consulting team of Structural Geologists.
